What is Vermont Suzuki Violins, Inc? Vermont Suzuki Violins began in 1993 with one teacher and twenty students. Now we have four teachers and approximately 50 students, ages 4 to 18, levels pre-Twinkle to advanced concertos. Our mission is to nurture and inspire young musicians to play, perform and appreciate classical music. We provide Suzuki group classes for all levels and an intense Chamber Music Program for more advanced students. All Suzuki students are welcome to our Suzuki group. We like to think of ourselves as a community resource.
We love to perform and give quite a few concerts each year, including Spooky Suzuki (in costume for Halloween), December and May group and chamber concerts, winter solo concerts and a retirement home tour for Valentine’s Day. We have an annual workshop in the fall and a gala soirée in the spring. We provide opportunities for our students to share what they do with the community. In recent years we have played at the State House, the Stowe Arts Festival, the Shelburne Library, several retirement homes, a Lake Monsters baseball game and on Church Street. We like to show off our teamwork, focus and energy.
As Pablo Casals said after witnessing his first Suzuki concert, “To train them to music to make them understand that music is not only sound to have to dance or to have small pleasure, but such a high thing in life that perhaps it is music that will save the world.”
